When the Head Designer at Tog 24 needed to look for an educational course for a newly employed apprentice he was not sure where to start. However, after a short internet search, the fashion pages on the Batley School of Art website had provided him with the necessary contact details for Zainab Mulla, the subject leader of the Fashion & Textiles pathway on the level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Art and Design.

Guy Witty was the Head Designer at Tog 24, the successful outdoor clothing retailer based in Heckmondwike. When he employed Georgina Marshall as a design assistant he knew she would need an appropriate educational course as part of her development process and Zainab was able to create a suitable two-year day-release programme for just such an apprentice.

Georgina was able to study specific units at Batley School of Art over a two year period to improve her skills in targeted areas. She studied Contextual Studies, CAD, Design, Pattern making and Manufacture skills. She worked on the G21 Talent Brief to design and make her garments (George at Asda, as part of its continuing support of Graduate Fashion Week has recruited a number of students to create styles for the label G21 Talent. The G21 Talent label is the first of its kind in the UK and features a series of limited edition; catwalk-inspired collections designed by handpicked fashion designers and are aimed at 18-25 age range).

She then, as part of the Fashion Presentation Techniques unit, styled a photo shoot with her garments and used the CAD skills she had learnt during the unit to create a display board to include flat technical illustrations and the photographs she had taken of her garments. After successfully completing her course she exhibited her garments and her display board at Create 16 alongside the level 3 fashion and textiles students.

The team at Tog 24 now want Georgina to continue her studies at Batley School of Art on the Higher Education Programme.
