Tuesday 6th of March 2012

On Wednesday 29 February crowds gathered in their warm clothes and wellies to witness a spectacular evening of entertainment at the Batley School of Art.

The evening called ‘Spectacular, Spectacular’ celebrated the history of the School of Art, which dates back to 1853. One of only few remaining schools of its kind in the UK, the Batley School of Art gives students the opportunity to cultivate their creativity and graduate as artists. The event culminated in an extraordinary outdoor 4D projection experience on the front of the building.

From September 2012, all further and higher education art and design courses will be based at the School of Art and Spectacular, Spectacular highlighted the best of what’s on offer at the school. The college hopes the rejuvenated specialist centre will provide healthy competition to universities, who are charging up to £9,000 per year. The college fees are set at £5,950.

Spectators experienced a challenging metamorphosis, using cutting-edge CGI technology and a dramatic light-spectacular. The evening included a showcase of student work exhibited in a variety of exciting ways, a 360° photography exhibition, fashion, performances from performing arts students, and an exhibition on the history of Batley School of Art researched by student, Michael Dean.

Karen Matula, head of creative industries said, “The Batley School of Art is highly successful and nationally recognised in its own right. It has its own distinctive identity and reputation and Spectacular, Spectacular was a fantastic way to celebrate this. The staff and students worked hard on the whole evening, especially the 4D projection experience which blew people away. It was a brilliant evening.”
